The Barbie Image
Many women are hesitant to let their little girls play with Barbies. But why? Is it the large breasts, little waist and bleach blonde hair that they don't want their daughters to aspire to look like? Do they think that the Barbie image is going to rub off on their daughter and make her have eating disorders and personal problems with her body? What do you think about the Barbie image? Do you think that having little girls play with Barbie dolls is making them actually want to be a "life-size" version of Barbie doll?

This paragraph brings up a very good point. I believe that barbies are influencing children and also the society as a whole. Their image is deceiving because not everybody is naturally perfect. I do not think the barbie should be banned from small children but I do think they need to be taught that the barbie is not realistic. The barbie should not be the "ideal image".

ReplyDeleteUnknown- I do agree that little girls should be taught that Barbie is unrealistic, but if you were ever a little girl that played with Barbie's ypu would probably agree that when you were having fun with them you never realized how much of "image" she put off. Little girls like her because they can live out their fantasies and be whoever they want to be, and if Barbie can do that and look good doing that i don't think that she is putting off the wrong image.
ReplyDeleteCherie- I think that the Bratz dolls are ridiculous. I never played with those because i didn't even think that they were pretty. It's crazy to think that if Barbie were a real person she wouldn't even be able to hold herself up because of her big boobs and little feet!
ReplyDeleteThe barbie is giving off the wrong image to young children. Can you honestly say that you have seen a "fat" barbie or a barbie that had any flaws whatsoever? Everybody is extremeley different and how different to the barbies get? They all look the same except for their varying hair styles and the color of their skin. The image of the barbie is not what the average women looks like.
