Barbie Revolution
"I really love that Barbie can do anything. Our mothers grew up thinking they could be a stewardess. Barbie came along and said, 'You can be the pilot.'" - Elizabeth Wright

Bild-Lilli
Did you know that the creator of the Barbie doll Ruth Handler got her style idea for her Barbie doll from the German cartoon character Bild-Lilli? The Bild-Lilli doll was famous from 1952 to 1964, and was commonly sold to men to give to their dates as a sign of wanting to have sex. Ruth Handler's first Barbie doll has a striking resemblance to the Lilli doll from the promiscuous eyes, bangs and body structure.
Past Memories
When I was a little girl I loved Barbie dolls. I always loved going to the store and walking down the bright pink isle that contained all new Barbie dolls and all their accessories. I had so many Barbie dolls I needed to huge buckets to put under my bed, and the collection didn't stop there. I had hundreds of outfits to choose from, two convertible, a yellow slug bug, a pink truck, one huge Barbie dream house, her hair salon, Barbie's pet dogs, her horse and it's stable, her boyfriend Ken and the rest of her family. I never once noticed how she could be a sex image and my parents were never concerned about how playing with Barbie would change me. I just thought that Barbie was beautiful and i loved playing with her.
The Barbie Image
Many women are hesitant to let their little girls play with Barbies. But why? Is it the large breasts, little waist and bleach blonde hair that they don't want their daughters to aspire to look like? Do they think that the Barbie image is going to rub off on their daughter and make her have eating disorders and personal problems with her body? What do you think about the Barbie image? Do you think that having little girls play with Barbie dolls is making them actually want to be a "life-size" version of Barbie doll?
